A completely new plant! El Niño desert orchid is a hybrid between a desert willow (Chilopsis linearis) and catalpa (Catalpa sp.), both of which have passed on some really neat characteristics. Its flowers look like clustered bunches of orchids and radiate a sweet, earthy fragrance. They arrive in abundance in spring and sporadically reappear in the summertime. Leaves are narrow, but substantial – a perfect blend of the polar opposite visual textures of its parents.
