Hemerocallis 'Purple De Oro'
An ideal choice for shrub borders or perennial beds, as ground covers on slopes or in containers near the patio. Thrives in full sun to part sun in average, moist, but well-drained soils. While it performs well in a wide range of soils, fertile loam is preferred, so add a bag of our Happy Frog Soil Conditioner. ‘Purple De Oro’ daylily is a fantastic reblooming purple. Blooms are around 3″ on scapes that grow about 20″ tall.
Hemerocallis 'Ruby Stella'
Blooms are red with a yellow throat, 3" wide. Ruby Stella Daylilies are re-bloomers, early Summer to first frost. Mature foliage height is 12"-14". Bloom height 16"-20". Daylilies have sword-like leaves arranged in pairs and grow only at the base of the plant. The leaves are narrow, smooth and slightly folded, with a central ridge running lengthwise down the back of the leaf. Six hours of sun or more will provide better blooming. Use for mass plantings, ground cover, erosion control, edging, borders, mixed beds, rock gardens.
Hemerocallis 'Yellow' (Yellow Daylily)
- Evergreen variety with lemon yellow flower. Mid-season rebloomer. Dark green foliage reaches up to 24 inches tall. This name has been applied to this long time Santa Barbara landscape variety because we do not know its valid name. Plant in full sun to light shade. Although tough enough to handle minimal irrigation, plants look better and bloom far more when given a regular watering. It is tolerant of most soils and temperatures down well below 0° F. The flowers are edible and tasty and contain considerable amounts of vitamins A and C, plus some protein. Added to salads they add color and flavor. The different cultivars have widely different flavors and, in general, the lighter colored flowers tend to taste better. Care should be exercised to not eat flowers of any plant that may have been sprayed with pesticides. People with plant allergies should check with their physician before eating daylilies. Hemerocallis comes from two Greek words meaning ''beauty'' and ''day,'' referring to the fact that each flower lasts only a day.
